However, where overactive muscle activity is significantly contributing to the creation of lines, medical grade relaxants can be used to temporarily moderate muscle activity. The muscles groups on the forehead, jawline, mouth, cheeks, neck and around the eyes can all be carefully and artistically targeted for a smoother, younger, more refreshed appearance.

Dermal fillers are useful to cosmetically enhance areas that may lack volume or definition, such as lips, cheeks and hollows under the eyes. DERMAL FILLERS AND VOLUMISERS
Injectable Dermal Fillers are generally used to treat static (visible at rest) wrinkles. Dermal Fillers are placed beneath the skin to fill in depressions or plump up areas to cosmetically enhance the face. The areas most commonly treated with Dermal Fillers include the Nasolabial Folds, Marionette Lines and Vertical Lip Lines, as well as acne scarring and pitting. In addition to the treatment of wrinkles, Injectable Dermal Fillers can also be used to create volume and definition of the lips. Dermal Fillers are administered by our Cosmetic Physician using a fine needle. Depending on fillers being used, you may be asked to administer a topical cream before your appointment or the doctor may use a local anaesthetic to numb the area being treated. Treatments usually last for at least 6 months and normal activities can generally be resumed immediately following facial injections.

MUSCLE RELAXANTS
Injectable Muscle Relaxants are used to treat dynamic (visible in action) wrinkles, and work by relaxing the wrinkle-causing muscles that cause you to frown or squint, leading to a 'younger' and 'fresher' appearance. Once the muscle is relaxed, you cannot contract it and continue to make the undesirable facial expressions. Thus, the cosmetic injections gradually smooth wrinkles and prevent wrinkles from forming again. After facial injections, it takes 2 to 3 days for the treatment to begin taking effect and around 10 days to see the full effect. Treatment effects can last for 4-6 months.

Muscle relaxants are used to soften lines such as frown lines between the eyebrows, lines across the bridge of the nose, 'Crow's feet', forehead lines and lines on the throat (‘turkey neck’). Muscle Relaxants can also be used to help contour the jawline and lower face.

Dr Ilana Galgut, Cosmetic Physician, graduated in South Africa with her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours in 1992. She received her Royal Australian College of General Practice Fellowship in 2000.

Dr Jodie Silleri, Cosmetic Physician, graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2003. She received her Royal Australian College of General Practice Fellowship in 2009. Before her time in medicine, she also completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours in 1999.

Between them, Dr Ilana & Dr Jodie have 15 years experience in the field of cosmetic medicine. With backgrounds in family medicine (general practice), both Dr Ilana and Dr Jodie take a holistic approach to your skin care concerns and strongly believe in subtle natural enhancements to look your best.
